| Top Surface Retarder |
|
TOP SURFACE is an easy to use and economical method for producing beautiful exposed aggregate concrete flat work with consistent results. Available in two strengths, Regular (blue) and Deep (red). TOP SURFACE temporarily halts the set of concrete at the surface while the concrete below the surface hardens normally. The surface concrete can then be washed or brushed away exposing the aggregate.
USE
For exposing aggregate on floor slabs, sidewalks, tilt up and precast panels. This product is also excellent for brick face precast panels as well. For use in producing roughened bonding surfaces for subsequent concrete topping or for roughened horizontal surfaces for construction joints in power plants, dams and civil engineering projects. This product is not to be used as a form retarder.
LIMITATIONS
Do not use in concrete containing calcium chloride or other set accelerators.
APPLICATION
TOP SURFACE Regular (blue) is generally used for 1/2” or smaller aggregate and Deep is generally used for 1/2” and larger aggregate. Place and level concrete. Do not overwork when closing off the surface or the aggregate will be driven down reducing the depth of exposure. 1. As soon as the bleed water has disappeared (usually within 30 minutes or less) uniformly apply TOP SURFACE with a pump or garden sprayer on top of the concrete avoiding puddles and over spray. 2. Cover the concrete with black plastic sheeting securing down the edges to prevent ballooning. Retarded concrete will eventually harden, therefore the surface should be periodically checked. Under normal conditions TOP SURFACE will retard the surface for 18 hours. With a temperature of 85°f and above, you may need to wash the same day. 3. Check a small area to be sure the subsurface concrete has cured sufficiently (usually overnight). Remove plastic sheeting just prior to exposing aggregate. Expose aggregates using a pressure washer, garden hose or broom. The greatest efficiency can be achieved with a pressure washer.
CLEAN UP
Clean sprayers with soap and water.
COVERAGE
100 - 150 square feet per gallon.
PRECAUTION
Remove retarded concrete no later than one day after (TOP SURFACE) is sprayed on concrete |
